IMPACT IN ACTION

Engineers without Borders (EWB) Ryerson invests in student leaders from multiple disciplines to catalyze social change at all levels of the system. From educating consumer choices to evolving the engineering curriculum; we strive to create impact within the Ryerson community and beyond. Our student group is a puzzle piece in the big picture beyond band-aid solutions with a focus on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals stated by the UN.

SUSTAINABLE THINKING

This refers to the competitions that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

"The event that I hoped to plan would be around sustainable supply chain management and how innovation can be a part of it. To add to this event and attract people would be to create a supply chain challenge with awards and have the participation of the government as a partner. This is closely related to what we have been experiencing with supply chain disruptions whether its due to disease (COVID-19) or war. By shining light to the innovation in this field and how it can improve and make sure that necessary goods are reached to the population is paramount in the coming years."

RECONCILIATION ACTION

This refers to the chapter's directives from any future public inquiries or calls for government action for local Indigenous communities and organizations.

" I believe that an individual has the right to clean water. As a first-world country, Canada still does not have clean water on reserves or in indigenous communications. "

" Movie nights hosted by TMU-EWB chapter helps the students like us to be aware of the struggles of our sisters and brothers in the Indigenous community."

HEALTH CONSCIOUSNESS

The chapter also focuses on raising awareness to our communities health awareness. Events that the chapter has done in the past include a mental monthly health awareness activities such as quiet study spaces while providing care packages to our fellow TMU students .

" Maintaining good health and more specifically having good mental health is so important especially for students at TMU that often have to deal with the stress of being in a school environment. To alleviate some of this stress, I would pitch ideas to organize both in person and online events geared towards stress relief. Ideas for stress relief events include organizing art activities such as pottery painting and group exercise sessions on campus. Additionally, around exam season, it would be nice to hold in person group study sessions that are open to all students because it can sometimes be comforting and less stressful to study with others rather than studying on your own."

ACCESSIBLE EDUCATION

Our chapter collaborates with other EWB chapter to host hackathons to present solutions/awareness about the UNSDGs.

" I would be honored to host an event about quality education because the system continuously fails tremendous amount of students daily. Whether a student is paying for school or not, one should be able to study.

"An event I would like to organize is 'No Poverty'. I have always believed in everyone being equal  in every sense and form, but poverty brings a stain to that belief of mine. "
